SIMACRO-Led Biomanufacturing Digital Platform Project Holds Kick-Off Meeting

Consortium aligns on first-year responsibilities, project goals, and a regular working structure

On September 14, SIMACRO and its research partners held the kick-off meeting for the government-funded initiative to develop an AI-based digital platform for industrial biomanufacturing.

The meeting, held at Sogang University, brought together representatives from SIMACRO, Seoul National University, Chungnam National University, Sogang University, Inha University, and the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB).

Earlier this year, SIMACRO announced its selection as the lead organization for the project, which brings together specialists in process modeling, AI/ML, bio-process experimentation, process design, and engineering. The September kick-off meeting marked an important step from establishing the consortium toward coordinating how the participating organizations will work together during the first year.

Aligning First-Year Responsibilities and Goals

A primary focus of the meeting was to align on the responsibilities and objectives of each participating organization for the first project year.

Each institution reviewed its area of responsibility and discussed how its work connects with the other parts of the project. At a high level, the consortium's first-year activities span experimental data generation, AI/ML and process modeling, process design, and integration within the project’s digital platform environment.

The objective of the discussion was not only to confirm individual work scopes, but also to establish a common understanding of how the different research activities will connect as the project progresses.

Because the project depends on contributions from multiple institutions and technical disciplines, coordination between experimental data, modeling, engineering, and platform development will remain an important part of the work.

Establishing a Regular Working Rhythm

The consortium also agreed to hold working sessions every two months to maintain coordination throughout the project.

These sessions will provide a regular opportunity for the participating organizations to review progress, coordinate work across institutional boundaries, and address topics that require joint discussion.

Data sharing and related access and security considerations were also discussed during the kick-off, with dedicated working-level discussions planned as the participating institutions begin exchanging the information required for their respective research activities.

Moving into Coordinated Execution

The government-funded biomanufacturing digital platform project brings together organizations with different but complementary areas of expertise around a common objective: developing an AI-based modeling and process-design environment specifically for industrial biomanufacturing.

With first-year responsibilities aligned and a recurring working structure now agreed, the consortium is moving into the next stage of coordinated project execution.
