Three.js/WebGL Developer for Interactive 3D Scientific Data Visualization
We are looking for an experienced Three.js/WebGL developer to build an interactive, browser-based 3D scientific data visualization module for integration into an existing SaaS platform.
The module will visualize a complex industrial system using measured CSV/XLSX data, including temperature values, flow-related values, and three-dimensional coordinates. Users must be able to inspect temperature distributions, convection vector fields, equipment components, and dynamically generated cross-sections directly in a web browser.
This is not a standard website animation or static 3D modeling project. It requires experience with scientific or engineering visualization, custom shaders, computational geometry, large datasets, and production-quality WebGL applications.
Key responsibilities:
Data processing and interpolation for the triangular mesh
Parse measured data from CSV/XLSX files
Implement triangulation and interpolation logic
Map temperature and flow data to the appropriate 3D geometry
Procedural 3D geometry
Generate solids of revolution from two-dimensional cross-sectional profiles
Create a multi-part equipment structure
Support individual components such as the chamber, heat shields, etc.
Ensure that the geometry is suitable for real-time browser rendering
Temperature heatmap visualization
Develop custom shader-based temperature color mapping
Implement smooth vertex-color or texture-based gradients
Provide an appropriate color scale and legend
Allow the visualization to update when the underlying data changes
Convection vector-field visualization
Calculate or render convection vectors based on the supplied data
Visualize vector direction and magnitude using arrows, particles, or streamlines
Optimize rendering through instancing or a comparable technique
Interactive cross-sectional viewer
Allow users to define the angle and position of a cutting plane
Reconstruct and display cross-sections in real time
Provide intuitive UI controls for rotating, zooming, isolating components, and adjusting the cross-sectional view
SaaS integration and optimization
Deliver the visualization as a reusable web module
Integrate it into our existing SaaS platform
Support authentication and data exchange with the host platform
Optimize loading and rendering for large datasets
Conduct cross-browser testing and resolve compatibility issues
Provide clean, maintainable, and documented source code
Expected deliverables:
Functional data-loading and interpolation module
Procedurally generated 3D equipment model
Temperature heatmap rendering module
Convection vector-field rendering module
Interactive cross-sectional viewer
Deployable web module ready for integration
Source code and technical documentation
Testing and bug fixes before final acceptance
Required qualifications:
Strong professional experience with Three.js and WebGL
Advanced JavaScript or TypeScript skills
Experience writing GLSL or other custom shaders
Experience with interactive 3D data or scientific visualization
Experience processing irregular three-dimensional datasets
Understanding of triangulation, interpolation, clipping planes, vector fields, and GPU performance optimization
Ability to develop production-quality, reusable web components
Clear communication and ability to demonstrate progress at agreed milestones
Experience with React, industrial visualization, digital twins, simulation data, engineering applications, or Unity/WebGL is preferred.
When applying, please include:
Links to relevant Three.js/WebGL projects you personally developed
An example involving scientific, engineering, geospatial, medical, or other data-driven 3D visualization
A brief explanation of how you would visualize an irregular temperature dataset within procedurally generated 3D geometry
Your experience with custom GLSL shaders, clipping planes, and vector-field visualization
Your estimated timeline and proposed milestone structure
Whether you will complete the work personally or as part of an agency
Shortlisted candidates may receive additional technical materials after signing an NDA.
If selected, you will be expected to attend regular progress check-in meetings scheduled between 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Korea Standard Time (KST).
Timeframe: Approx. 4 weeks
Compensation: Open to negotiation. Please propose your project fee.
